What an awesome day for the creators of Franks and Beans!

Fellow Franks and Beans cohort, creator of Teddy and the Yeti, and all around great guy, Jeff McClelland, finally got to announce his huge news.  He is writing the upcoming Free Comic Book Day issue of The Tick! Jeff has been published several times before, in his own creations and in other books, but this is the first big time character he has written for.  The issue will be out in May and did I mention it will be free?

Maybe now we know why Jeff was inside the Tick booth at SDCC looking so excited.  This is a huge opportunity for Jeff and I couldn't be happier for him.  He deserves it.  

I found a fun surprise this morning. I read the movie website JoBlo everyday. In my opinion it's the best source for all the inside info from Hollywood. I logged on today to find an article about me. No, I wasn't chosen to reprise my role as "Hazzard Country Citizen 1" in a Dukes reboot (yet) and Franks and Beans hasn't been optioned for a feature (again, yet) but my collection was featured on JoBlo's Show Us Your Shit column. They ask readers to submit their collections relating to movies. Obviously mine mostly pertains to TV but I got just about everything Dukes movie released too. It is awesome to be featured. JoBlo has a huge following and this will help spread the DukesCollector brand to tons of new visitors. If you're reading this post because you were lead here from JoBlo, welcome and enjoy your visit, and I hope you come back. Thanks JoBlo, keep being an awesome movie site!

Watching Collection Intervention and trying to get my collection organized has lead me to start searching for some kind of database tool that helps me orgainze all this stuff.  I found a couple online and they all seem to be Windows 95 based.  They seem to basically be beefed up Excel documents.  Come on people, we live in the smart phone era.  Give me an app for this.  I searched in the play store and there doesn't really seem to be anything that helps.  I think Elyse Luray could market one and it would do pretty well.  Does anyone know of some kind of collecting app that I am missing?  There's got to be something. 

Comic-Con pictures - SDCC part 4

Let's take this thing home.  Time to finish out the pics from Comic-Con. 

This guy just let people duct tape anything on him.  Zoom in close and find the DukesCollector business card.  It seemed to be the only thing that caught the flash.

On Sunday, I finally made it to mythical Hall H.  This is where they held the biggest panels and people stood in line over night.  I went to the Sons of Anarchy panel and it was really cool.  Panels like Firefly, Walking Dead, and Game of Thrones led people to camp out the night before so they could get in.  Comic-Coners do crazy things.

That's all the pics I got.  It was a great time.  Be sure to check out Jeff's Teddy and the Yeti blog for his pics.  I was on the Ocean City, MD Boardwalk last night and I caught myself in Con mode trying to heckle people as they walked by.  It works to pull people to your table in the small press section.  Not a good idea in public.  As we were walking to the car from the boardwalk, there was a band playing at one of the bars.  They started to play Good Ol' Boys.  Love unexpected Dukes of Hazzard.

Dukes of Hazzard in comic books

If you haven't heard, I'm heading to the San Diego Comic-Con International soon.  The main reason for the trip is that Jeff's comic Teddy and the Yeti was chosen to exhibit at the show.  That's huge for an independent comic.  We will also be hawking freshly minted DVDs of the internet comedy phenomenon that is Franks and Beans.  And of course I'll be wearing Dukes shirts and passing out Dukescollector cards to everyone who makes eye contact with me.  It is going to be crazy and I can't wait. 

In honor of SDCC, I decided to post about the Dukes of Hazzard in comic books. 

In Marvel Tales #159, a Spider-Man story is reprinted that originally appeared in Amazing Spider-Man #21.  In the original issue, it is mentioned that the Beverly Hillbillies is Aunt May's favorite TV show.  The reprint was updated for an 80s audience:

Aunt May has good taste.  Can't spell "Hazzard," but has good taste.  I am looking for this particular issue to add to my collection. 

Recently while Jeff was reading a back-issue of the Tick, he noticed this:

Good eye Jeff!  I love that Ol' Crazy Cooter gets the mention in this.  The panel comes from Tick: Big Blue Destiny #3.

Deadpool #22 includes a couple references to the Dukes:

This is the first time I've ever seen "Dukes O' Hazzard."  Deadpool better set this woman straight and let her know "the rest O' the country" loves the Dukes. 

Yep, even Deadpool loves them Dukes.

And finally we have an appearance by the General Lee in a comic called Jesus Hates Zombies:

I came across this book at Evil Genuis Comics in California, PA when Jeff was signing copies of Teddy and the Yeti.  I was pretty stunned to see our favorite car on the cover of a zombie comic.  Especially one starring Jesus.  I read the book and basically Jesus and honest Abe drive the General to Las Vegas to kill some zombies.  Not really any explanation of why they have the General.  A little while later, Jeff ends up working with the creator of the book, Stephen Lindsay, on FUBAR.  Weird how that worked out.  Earlier this year, I asked Stephen why he included the General in his book.  His answer:  "I wanted my characters to drive the coolest car out there."  Can't argue with that.  There is currently a movie in pre-production for Jesus Hates Zombies.  I asked Stephen if the General will make an appearance, and sadly he said no.  But congratulations for making a book popular enough to get a movie deal.  Maybe that luck will rub off on me and Jeff at SDCC.  One can hope.

SDCC Exclusive Hot Wheels® K.I.T.T.

I mentioned on the blog that I will be attending the 2012 San Diego Comic-Con International in July.  My pal, Jeff, was invited to exhibit his independent comic Teddy and the Yeti.  It is a huge honor and we are very excited.  We also entered our online comedy show, Franks and Beans, into the Comic-con International Independent Film Festival.  So my fingers are crossed for that.  And we'll be showing off the wildly popular World War II Zombie graphic novel FUBAR that Jeff is a part of.  We've  got a lot on our plate.

I don't think there will be anything Dukes related at the event...  Except me handing out Dukes Collector business cards to everyone...EVERYONE.  But there is a special edition Hot Wheels KITT for sale. 

These exclusives tend to become hard to find, but I was able to get one in a presale.  So looks like I'm guaranteed one.  I'll post pictures of it when I get my hands on it at the show. 

I'm sure the event will be filled with crazy things that Dukes Collector readers will enjoy, though not Dukes related.  I'll post all kinds of info leading up to it, and also pictures and stories from the show.  June and July are going to be nuts.  

Random Blog Updates

Unfortunately you can't get new Dukes of Hazzard things each week.  Fortunately this isn't one of those weeks.  I got a few new things.  Aside from posting my new things, I also want to pass along a little random Dukescollector news. 

I am new to this whole blogging thing.  Sure, I've commented on Jeff's Teddy and The Yeti blog plenty of times, but writing a blog opens you up to a whole new world.  I have gotten quite a few kind words from readers and its a lot of fun.

Jeff's blog is about his comic book Teddy and the Yeti, comics, and life in general (where my blog is about life in the General HA).  I recommend it to anyone, as it is a really fun read.  He mentions me and my site enough, so I figured it was time to reciprocate.

While searching the web, I came across Retro Rescue.  The banner shown above is enough to get you to love this blog.  There you can find pictures and stories about all the great video games, toys, and collectibles we can't get enough of.  I love that Goonies is on the top of their page, hands down my favorite movie.  You won't be disappointed checking out this site. 

In my first post I mentioned that I bought a 1/144 Racing Champions poster from my new friend Jeff K. from Liberty, IL.  It was very smooth transaction, and Jeff is great to deal with.  He asked me to mention that he has several RC 1/144 Dukes cars and a couple of Ertl 1/64 Dukes 3-packs that he would like to sell.  If any readers have any interest in these items, please contact me and I will get the info to Jeff. 

I recently bought a couple of items from Dean in Santa Maria, CA.  This was another smooth deal and I can't wait to get the items.  I will post pics when they come in.  Thanks Dean.

And finally to my new things:

This is a cool old print ad for the the line of MPC Dukes of Hazzard models.  It is from 1981 (many great things are).  I really like the artwork of the cars, but Bo and Luke's faces are a little strange. 

This tiny little comic was only available in Canada with Nabisco's Shreddies.  The story is in 3D and written in English and French.  My first thoughts were that Shreddies would be like America's Shredded Wheat, but a webseach tells me that they are more similar to Life cereal.  There are a few more of these out there and they go for a pretty good price still sealed.  This one is open and has no 3D glasses.  I picked it up for like two bucks.  Not bad at all.  The artwork of the Duke Boys is much better than the MPC ad. 

And I got a needle for my previously mentioned Dukes of Hazzard record player.  I have no idea how to install this thing, but darn it! I will listen to the Dukes album on my record player.  I have to get my hands on Sonny Shroyer's Enos Back in Hazzard album.  I want to listen to that on my record player too. 

And finally I wanted to share one of the oddest Dukes of Hazzard items I have.
