Cooter's Place's Twitter Lee giveaway

We are just about thirty days from the Dukes of Hazzard Fan Fair in Nashville, TN (and I haven't bought my airline tickets yet...whoa, gotta get on that.)  In order to help get the word out about the event, Cooter's Place is running a contest on Twitter, and I think whoever came up with it is a genius, a Dukes of Hazzard Genius!

What better way to get people to do something you want than to give them a chance to win something for doing it.  In this case the item to be given away is a signed 1/64 General Lee.  But not just any signed 1/64.  Ben Cooter Jones also wrote "Twitter Lee" on the car.  This is the world's only Twitter Lee!  It has taken Twitter by storm.  #TwitterLee has been trending since Saturday.  Maybe.  The point of the contest it to spread the word about Dukes Fan Fair, so to enter, the entrant must retweet a message that mentions the Dukes Fan Fair.  (Tell me that is not genius.)  The aforementioned tweet is as follows:

Now you have to have a Twitter account to enter.  I made one a while ago just for contests, and if you aren't signed up, this is what everyone should do.  The original tweet from @CootersPlace was sent out Saturday,  May 4 around noon eastern.  Sam, Dave, Shadley, Reis........you should all enter this thing.  You can't just go out and pick up a Twitter Lee.  They are very rare and highly sought after. Anyone would want one in their collection.  Wait, I don't have one in my collection.  It's that rare!! So fire up the Twitter account, enter to win this one of a kind collectible, help spread the word about the upcoming event, and tell everyone you know that the person responsible for this contest should be publicly adorned as a Dukes of Hazzard virtuoso.

Random notes - items for sale, bicycles, and Sam's new patrol car

Hazzard Homecoming was such a great event.  I made several new friends both online and in the real world. Tim, Gloria, Ken, Gary, Gary, Ken, Donald, Steve, Randall, Tony and everyone who has checked in and shared some nice words, I appreciate it.  I really love meeting so many Dukes fans through this blog.

Collector Gary Repcik asked me to share some Dukes items he has for sale.  A lot of his items are autographed and look to be in great condition.  I am putting up a few pictures, but he has a lot more items.  He can be reached at grepcik@gmail.com

Our friend from across the pond, James Fisher, shared this cool birthday card he recently picked up.  It's a mix between the General Lee and the Starsky and Hutch Torino.  Love when companies show love for the Dukes.  Thanks for sending it James.

Thanks to my post about the new DK General Lee BMX bicycle, I had a cool conversation with Jesse who works at DK.  He told me that he liked the post and gave me a little history about the Bike.  The original was released over ten years ago and was built for jumping.  They wanted to associate it with the best known jump vehicle, so they named it General Lee.  Good choice.  He said they have released several variations of the General Lee including this 12" bike from a few years ago.  I'll have to start searching for one of these.  Thanks Jesse.

Our pal Sam aka Driftlee has been busy lately.  He recently started a blog about collecting 1/64 cars.  Check out 64 Wheels to see his nearly overwhelming amount of Hot Wheels, Matchbox, and Ertls.  And he recently bought this bad boy:

That ain't no 1/64.  Sam is now a Hazzard car owner.  You punk, you did it before me.  I can't wait to see this car for myself.  

The car looks to be in great condition, and comes from a well known Dukes car builder.

I couldn't be happier for you Sam.  I know you love those Monacos.  Now you have to go to some Dukes events with me.

Driftlee's General Lee Pedal Car

Friend of the site Driftlee, aka Sam Mc, from the Dayton, OH area, has recently competed his General Lee restoration.  If this were another Dukes of Hazzard website, we might be talking about torsion bars, engine manifolds, and roll cages.  But not here on DukesCollector.  Driftlee's restoration was of an original Dukes of Hazzard Pedal Car. 

When he first bought the car, it didn't look nearly as good as the above picture.  Like most restorations of '69 Chargers, he rescued a previously loved car and knew the job wouldn't be easy. 

Most of the original decals were torn off, and the steering module was incorrectly installed. 

Sam striped it down, cleaned it up, and fixed the steering.  He then contacted CrazyC, resident General Lee decal maker, and together they went to work recreating all the stickers and decals.  Hours and hours of measuring, searching, and more measuring went into the completed pieces.  After seeing the finished product, one might think that they had an original sticker sheet to copy, but that was not the case at all. 

I can't imagine a brand new pedal car sitting under the tree on Christmas morning in 1982 looking any better than this.  Another fan might have tried to make the decals look more like the actual General rather than the original pedal car, but I think Sam did the right thing recreating the look of car as if it were new out of the box.  Great job Driftlee! You are truly a professional at General Lee pedal car restoration.
