DK Has An All New Limited Edition General Lee Bicycle For 2016!

Our friend Jesse at DK Bicycles shared with me their newest General Lee bike.  Going back to its high end roots, the 2016 DK General Lee will be extremely limited.

Jesse, who has a great Dukes name, sent me the following information.

"Here are some photos from the day at the trails, obviously in the woods jumping is where the GL belongs! Back in 1998 the first General Lee frame was made in the USA, a high end frame only. Since then the General has been made for almost every budget. From USA made frame, to high end complete then down to an entry level bike and everywhere in between. At one point (2006) we made a run of GL's in 12", 16", 20", and 24".

"Now for 2016 the GL is back at the top. Built around a full 4130 Chromoly frame with a "MID" bottom bracket (sealed bearings press right into the frame), Integrated Headtube (sealed bearings fit right into the machined headtube, no need for cups), tapered tubing to reduce weight, and a custom Star brake bridge. The 8.75" DK bars and fork are also full 4130, and matched with our new Chamberlain hi rise Top Load stem.

"The drive train is highlighted with the aftermarket DK Social crank, one of the strongest cranks on the market. Sealed hubs with clean female style bolts, and a 25/9 gear ratio. The seat is a Wise "Denim" TriPod style with a Wise Tri Pod post, clean and simple. Frame weight is right around 4.5lbs and the complete bike weighs in at 24lbs.

"Numbers are very limited. Anyone interested should contact their local DK dealer or bike shop. "

Thanks Jesse.  This bike is beautiful.  It deserves a place in anyone's collection and also deserves to be out there tearing up the trails and hitting those jumps.

It sure is great that such an important and revered bicycle in its genre was inspired by our favorite flying orange car.  The General Lee and the DK General Lee share a deep respect that transcends hobbies.

Jesse also shared this ad for the DK General Lee from 1999.  Very cool to look back at the bike's early days.

Thanks again to Jesse and DK for reaching out and sharing their newest creation.  Contact the bike shops quick. This one won't last.

Another Holy Grail: The Dukes of Hazzard Sidewalk Bicycle

It's been a good few weeks as far as Holy Grails go.  Here is another super rare Dukes item that I just added to the collection:  The 1982 Dukes of Hazzard Sidewalk Bicycle from Hedstrom.

The bike shows a little wear, but is generally in great condition.  (It took all I had not to write out -in General Lee condition- there.)  The name Sidewalk Bike means, I guess, that it is meant to be used on the sidewalk, not the road.  It could have had training wheels attached, but they did not come with the bike.

If the 01s didn't give it away, the plate on the front told the world this bike's rider is fan of the Dukes of Hazzard.

The makers of the bikes, trikes, big wheels, and pedal cars just couldn't get the 01s down during the golden era.  On all of these ride-ons, the font is wrong, and the numbers are blue, not black.  Weird.

The General Lee font, on the other hand, is surprisingly close to being correct.  Again, weird.

The plate has the standard WB copyright information on it.  Unlike a majority of the Golden Era merchandise, this item was released in '82, not '81.  I was released in '81.

The bike is made by Hedstrom.  I couldn't find out online if this is the same company that is today called Hedstrom and was founded in 1913 as Eagle  Rubber from Ohio specializing in bouncy balls and such, or if the company is related to the co-founder of Indian Motocycles, whose last name is Hedstrom.  Maybe the company was just named after him.

Movie Bo Duke likes the connection to Indian Motocycles.

Not all the stickers are perfect, but they still look good.

A coaster brake is the name of the type of brake that stops the bicycle by pushing the pedal backwards.

It is a little smaller than the modern Wal-Mart version of the DK General Lee BMX bike.  I like how much bigger the 01s are on the sidewalk bike, but I guess you would need giant plastic plates on the newer one to achieve this, and they would probably get in the way.  These two bikes look great displayed together.  It is really cool that these two items were released thirty years apart.  It's a complete circle of Dukes of Hazzard collecting.

Another Dukes Of Hazzard Collector's Awesome Collection

One of the my main goals for this site and blog is to bring Dukes of Hazzard collectors together.  The most popular Dukes sites and forums focus mainly on General Lee ownership.  I wanted a spot where collectors could talk collecting.  So I am very happy to share another collector's collection.  And, man, is it a doosy.  New friend, Mark, form upstate New York, shared with me some of his coolest items.  He tells me he has hundreds of Dukes items and these are some of his best.  I would have to agree.  I don't have any of these bad boys in my collection (yet).  Let's take a look.

This is the Kid Size Raincoat.  Mark's looks to be in great condition.

Not only does Mark have the super-rare Daisy Power Cycle, he has it in the box.  Wow.  I think this one is more rare than the General Lee version because it was aimed at the female fans of the show.

Ah the pedal car.  An item that has been eluding me for a while.  I often wonder why they used the same mold for the General as they did for KITT.  And why they are both a GTO and neither a Charger nor Firebird.  Some questions may never get answered.  Mark's pedal car looks to be autographed by Enos, Cletus, Daisy, and Rosco.  Very Cool.  I have the KITT version of this car.  I'll have to snap some photos and get them on here.

This Fun Tunnel and bicycle are blowing my mind.  I don't think I have ever seen either on eBay.  They are truely amazing.  Again, Mark has the tunnel and the box.  Crazy.  I think my best bet for adding these kind of items to my collection is to find them at an antique store or something.  I am sure the prices would skyrocket on eBay.  I love how Flash made the box art for the Fun Tunnel.  Ol' Flash didn't make it on to too many packages.

Mark, I truly appreciate you sharing these photos with me.  I hope you continue to visit the site and share with us.  If any other collectors would like to have their collections shown, please contact me.

I'm off to find at least one of these items for myself...
